About me
Greetings to all internet nomads, wandering the vast
metaphysical interweb.
Welcome to Blue Earth Grrl, my variety,
everything-but-the-kitchen-sink of a blog.
Some topics you can expect to find:
-RECIPES!!! from my kitchen experiments
-strange musings on daily observations
-moral/ethically interesting topics I stumble upon
-outdoors adventures
-art styles to try out
-cat shenanigans that amuse me
Who am I?
A twenty year old university student, going through the
motions to get a fancy piece of card for the cost of ~ $20,000. (Watch this space, there may be travel stuff up, since I am breaking the OE mould and taking a trip before I am done studying)
I am also a serial blog follower. Wednesday is the highlight
of my week since that is when most of my 'idols' post, which is why I thought I'll
try to update every Wednesday too! For now I think I'll remain faceless, just
until I figure out whether the internet is safe enough to put a face behind my
posts, as I do touch on sensitive subjects on occasion, such as my choice for
veganism.
Yes another thing about me, I am thus far two years living
the vegan lifestyle.
-What that means for me is I do read labels on my dark
chocolate bars (hmmmm 85% cocoa, come to mama);
-I buy (where possible) cruelty-free clothing (or resort to
thrift-shopping yo!);
-I try to win my family over with scrumptious home-baking or
beautiful stir-fries (on occasion loaded with roast chickpeas) and
exotic/homely stews and soups;
-I strive to best answer any questions that come my way from
colleagues, friends, and associates.
Why though? You may wonder.
Well, it was a gradual process for me, beginning with a
three month stint without meat, thanks to Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall (I
literally followed that season Veg Everyday and went: 'yep, challenge
accepted'). Only thing is, I never stopped the abstinence. In that time, I
thought a lot about the right to life for fellow animals, but for the greater
part about the environment, and the impact of heavy-duty animal farming. I
thought about the allocation of resources for rearing crops compared to cows
and slowly it dawned on me. I care about this earth. I want all the organisms
on the planet to have a chance at life even after I'm gone, so I will do all I
can at my level to preserve the natural wonders of this planet, because GLOBAL
WARMING IS REAL folks. So is deforestation, developing swathes of ecosystems
into new roads, houses, shops, pollution and the dangers of non-recyclable
plastic.
If I do what I can to reduce my impact, and get those around
me to do the same, I hope to spread the message, "pay it forward" so
to speak.
Anyhow, at a personal level, I will always advocate for plant-based
living, for carrying around your own utensils and bottles, for looking beyond
the easy escape of consumerism, towards creating meaningful experiences and
memories.
"We cannot see the future, but we can predict the
future our actions will create. So stop a moment, and think. For thoughts
become the actions you take, and the future you make." (I came up with
that. Quote me if you wish.)
Over and out.
PS: I shall explain my domain name, since I agonised over it a loooong time, and thou shalt appreciate the thought I put in. Blue earth, simply since earth looks mostly blue from space, and that is easy to forget when you spend all your time in the grey cities or green parks. Blue and grrl also link to one of my all-time favourite books: The Blue Girl by Charles De Lint, the grrl is one slang for 'girl' that he utilises in several of his stories.
